Green transport to restaurants in Gamla Stan (Old Town)
June saw the opening of O-Centralen, a new distribution concept of environmentally sound local transport of goods to Gamla Stan in Stockholm, within the framework of Trendsetter. Provisions from several suppliers are delivered to a reloading central. From there the goods are delivered daily with a biogas truck to some 30 restaurants in the area.
"O-Centralen is a good example of innovative thinking and a step in the right direction towards protecting the sensitive environment in Gamla Stan," says Jan Valeskog, chairman of the highways and property management committee in Stockholm. The service has also been eco-labelled by the Swedish Society for Nature Conservation.
"The aim is to coordinate most deliveries to restaurants in the area within a year," says Cai Troedson, MD for Home2You, responsible for the reloading and distribution. "In this way, we would reduce the number of transports by 20.000 per year."
