Trendsetter touches millions of people

Popular bio-gas trucks reduces noise
–The biogas lorry is quick, nice and easy to drive. And it is quiet which is nice both for me as driver and for the surroundings. Waste Management Administration in Stockholm has good experience from using two biogas fuelled waste collection lorries for a couple of years. Now within Trendsetter they can expand the fleet, twelve more trucks will be purchased. Now we only need better fuelling possibilities. Kjell Murell, Driver at Resta, Subcontractor for the Waste Management Administration in Stockholm. Safer and funnier way to school without cars
-In the car everything rushes past so quickly, you cannot really observe anything. Thanks to the project to find new ways to get to school I now can walk to school together with my friends instead of going by car. -I like going to school with public transport. And in the new Cityrunner trams they even have televisions, much better than going by car! Nino and Carina, Eisteich Primary School as part of mobility management in Graz. Creme de la creme of cities combines urban transport measures
The CIVITAS Initiative addresses ambitious cities that are ready to introduce bold, courageous, and innovative measures intended to radically improve urban transport. CIVITAS cities are not embarking on an activity in one sector only. They are combining a whole set of measures. It is this combination that we firmly believe will substantially improve the urban transport system and hopefully also encourage changes in the behaviour of citizens. Here are the most dynamic European cities that have come together under the CIVITAS initiative, the 'crème de la crème' in terms of urban transport policy. -I drive as much as 70.000 to 80.000 km yearly with my Taxi - mostly in city traffic. With the shift to biodiesel we really reduce greenhouse gas emissions and also the load on our sewage system. The course provided by Trendsetter for us drivers helps me to inform passengers on this - how all our biodiesel is produced from recycled cooking oil, and that there is the possibility for everyone to switch from fossil fuel to this renewable fuel. Rudolf Dominik, taxi driver at Taxi 878 Working together helps ambitious cities
-In the year 2000, as the European Commission launched the CIVITAS Program, Lille Metropole had voted the landmarks of an ambitious policy for the 10 years to come: the urban mobility plan, the local safety plan and the purchase of 100 new biogas busses with the target of a 100 percent clean public transport service. We wanted to share this experience with other European cities having a complementary approach; the dynamics of the project Trendsetter with the cities of Stockholm, Graz, Prague and Pécs is a further motivation for our local and regional partners involved in the tricky but exciting challenge of a sustainable urban mobility. Our political commitment consists in implementing the Kyoto protocol objectives on the local level, as our little planet must be made of nice cities. Eric Quiquet, Vice-President of Lille Metropole in charge of urban transport Long sought-after city bus lines gets out on the road
-The public transport system in the inner city of Prague has been insufficient since the closing of several tram lines in the 80's, especially for elderly and handicapped people. Discussions have been going on about how to introduce new bus lines as a supplement to the subway. With Trendsetter we finally go into action and can introduce a line with small city buses. The joint work between the city administration and transport companies within the project, as well as the exchange with colleagues in other European countries, helps providing powerful solutions to traffic management in Prague, Zdenek Dosek, Public Transport Company in Prague Valuable help for a decrease in city traffic
-Quick and effective action plans are required to avoid harmful effects of an increase in city traffic in order to keep good living conditions in the inner city. The participation for Pécs in CIVITAS is a huge support for us in this work. The significance of this work is further increased by the fact that the UNESCO awarded Pécs with the World Heritage title. The protected area is heavily effected by all kinds of traffic related damages and access restricted zones, parking zones as well as removal of public transportation outside the city walls significantly reduces that burden. This helps to protect both the historical and the social environment. [mellanrubrik:György Kelemen,] City Development Department in Pécs
